Chattanooga and Chickamauga Lookout Mountain don't ya know.

Chattanooga and Chickamauga is a dual Civil War battlefield in Tennessee.  Actually Chattanooga is in Tn. and Chickamauga is in Ga.. This is also the site of another of Grants big victories which led to him taking over all of the Union forces. Really you say, tell me more you say. Well.......you'll just have to come visit the area and see for yourself. Plus, you get the bonus of Lookout Mountain, site of part of the Chattanooga battle field, also home to Rock City. So it is well worth the trip.
The visitor center at Chickamauga which also included a fabulous gun collection valued at over 3 million dollars.
The one thing that I noticed right away was the beauty of the monuments. They are true works of art. One would expect nothing less from the oldest and largest National Battlefield Park, sight of the one of the bloodiest battles of the war. Enjoy.

As you can see Lynn is overcoming her fear of heights. A spiral open staircase to get to the top.

The entrance to the Chattanooga battle field on top of Lookout Mountain.

Everywhere you turned you had a gorgeous view.

One of the many hiking trails leading from the top of the mountain around and then down to the bottom.

An enormous painting of the "battle above the clouds". Approximately 8 feet high and 15 to 20 feet wide.

The New York monument at the top of the mountain.

This is the porch of the building at the end of the mountain where there was a photo studio shortly after the battle. There are numerous famous photos of soldiers taken on these rocks. One of the things that made it famous.

Monuments in the side of the mountain near the cliffs that the Union soldiers had to climb during the assault.
We hiked halfway down to the monuments where the union army prepared for the assault.
Then we had to climb back up. Keeps us young.

Also on top of Lookout Mountain is Rock City. You've seen the signs as far away as Illinois telling you to see Rock City. So we did. Now I'll admit that I don't like touristy places. But I remember having the same feeling about Graceland. Why would I want to see that? Well we did, and we loved it. Sooooo why not do Rock city. Well, I would highly recommend this to everyone. In one word, Beautiful. From the trails through the rocks to the gardens to the overlooks and even the fairy tale land they built. Fun for adults and kids alike. Especially for adults who think they're still kids. No one that I know but you may know someone like that. Here are the pictures. Enjoy.

The previous owners house. Now a private residence.

The entrance to Fairy Tale land. A series of blacklite chambers with different tales.

Next Stop Amelia Courthouse. About an hour west of Richmond. Another Civil War stop but with a bonus.
